The “Number Puzzle” practices number sequencing, counting, and recognizing numerals from 1 to 100. It also builds problem-solving and cognitive skills by teaching children to develop strategies to assemble each piece correctly, one at a time. This activity has two levels: Fifty Puzzle and Hundred Puzzle. See the Math Curriculum page for guidance on when to complete each level.
Print out a Sight Words Math Puzzle with an image on it. Each puzzle piece is color coded. All the numbers with the same colored lines form one piece. Cut out all the puzzle pieces until you have a complete set. Shuffle the pieces and place them in front of your child. Have your child assemble the puzzle to make the complete number board.
Adult: Find the puzzle piece starting with 1 and start with it!
Child: [Finds first puzzle piece and places it first]
Adult: Now find the next piece!
Once your child finishes, have him recite all the numbers on the puzzle.
Adult: Read all the numbers on your completed puzzle!↑ Top
Once your child completes all of the puzzles with an image on it, try one of the puzzles without an image. This focuses your child on the number sequencing aspect of the exercise.
